St James Community Garden - Come Grow with Us
We at St. James are truly blessed in many ways, one of which is with a LARGE, GREEN campus! Yep, we own a lot of property and most of it is still raw, untouched landscape. We started thinking about ways in which we could be better stewards of this land that God has given us. How could we glorify God in our physical assets?
Enter the Community Garden Project!
At the beginning of January, 2013, we started to make this ministry a reality when we broke ground on our Community Garden. The plots we chose were right next to our playground and in them we erected two raised beds packed full of leaves, straw and newspaper to help the soil grow strong for our seedlings! A group of about 10 of us hauled out to St. James early one Saturday morning to do the diggin’ and we had a grand ole time!

In the weeks ahead, look out for our adoption scheme whereby you and a friend or family member may officially “adopt” a section of our garden to grow! Extend the invitation to help to your friends and neighbors! We’re working on getting the fabulous residents of Summerfield Estates involved as well, so talk it up when you are next door for a visit! |
Plans for the future of our garden are exciting and in the works! We will look for loving ways to share the fruit of our labors with those in our community of Southern Hills! Over the past year we have doubled the size of our garden. More vegetables for more people.
